Whether it’s vague aches and pains, allergies, or a life threatening condition, our mind can be our greatest asset or our worst nemesis. Studies estimate that fully 95% of all health problems have an emotional component. Most disease is opportunistic. We know, for example, that stress depletes the immune system, and everything from allergies to cancer can usually have their origin traced to a particularly stressful time. But if out mind is that powerful, it can also be powerful for healing.

Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) is the practice of psychology as it relates to supporting and improving immune system functioning. As a Health Psychologist, I regularly use PNI techniques, as well as help people with pain management, digestive disorders, and almost any health challenge. Health Psychology supports you while you are going through medical treatment, and often helps reduce symptoms and improve outcomes.

When someone is living with a severe chronic or terminal illness, the family members can be as impacted as the primary patient. In this situation, I work with both the patient and the family to help them cope with the stresses these issues create. With your permission, I am always happy to consult with your other health care providers in order to provide the most comprehensive and integrated care possible.
